ggMapping, Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18/08/2026
ggMapping is a non-profit hobby project. We collect as little as the app needs to work, we do not sell data, and we do not show ads. This page says what we collect, where it lives, and what you can do about it.
1. Who is responsible
For anything about your data, write to [email protected]
2. What we collect
Account data. Your email address, and, if you sign in with Google or Facebook, the identity they give us (your account id there, email and display name). We use this to create your account and let you sign in. We do not receive your Google or Facebook password.
Your content. The photographs of map panels you upload, the maps, notes, digital panels, decks, timeline moments and game state you create, and the derived versions the app makes from them (thumbnails, previews and map tiles). This is the point of the service.
Technical data. Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs: IP address, browser type, the pages and resources requested, and timestamps. We use these only to keep the service running, to diagnose faults and to prevent abuse. We do not run analytics trackers or advertising pixels.
Data on your device. The app is local-first: it stores your maps, images and settings in your browser's storage on each device you use, so it works offline and opens quickly. This data stays on your device until you delete it or clear your browser storage.
We do not collect payment data (there is nothing to pay), location data, contacts, or anything from your device beyond the photographs you choose to upload.
3. Why we use it, and the legal basis
We use your data to run the service you asked for (performance of a contract), to keep it secure and working (our legitimate interest), and, where you make a map public, to display it because you chose to (your consent, which you can withdraw by making the map private again). Where you upload photographs, you are responsible for making sure they do not contain other people's personal data.
4. Where your data lives
Your account and content are stored with third party cloud providers. These providers process data on our behalf under their own data processing agreements. We do not transfer your personal data to anyone else.
5. Who can see your content
Your maps are private by default. Only you can see them, on the devices signed into your account.
If you make a map public, its map view, timeline, name and derived tiles become visible to anyone with the link, and it may be listed in public showcases on the site. Panel photographs at full resolution and everything else in your account stay private even when a map is public. You can make a map private again at any time.
We do not share, sell or rent your data to third parties. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of the site and its users.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. When you delete content, it is removed from active use promptly and from backups within a reasonable time. When you delete your account, your account data and private content are deleted; content that you had made public and that had already been used in showcases or derivative works may be kept as described in the Terms of Use. Server logs are kept by our providers for a limited period and then deleted.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your data protection authority. Most of these you can do yourself inside the app: you can view, export (back up), edit and delete your maps and your account at any time. For anything else, write to [email protected] and we will answer within one month.
8. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The app uses your browser's local storage and a session token so that you stay signed in and can work offline. These are necessary for the service to function.
9. Children
ggMapping is not directed at children under 16. If you are under 16, you need a parent or guardian's permission to hold an account. If we learn we hold an account created by a child without such permission, we will delete it.
10. Security
We protect your data with access controls that keep each account's private content readable only by that account, encrypted connections, and the security measures of our providers. No system is perfectly secure; please keep your sign-in method safe and keep your own backups of anything you care about.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you inside the app.
