ggMapping, Terms of Use
Last updated: 18/08/2026
ggMapping is a non-profit hobby project made for people who paint maps by hand and want to keep, share and play with them. These terms are short on purpose. Please read them; using the site means you accept them.
1. What ggMapping is
ggMapping is a free, non-commercial web app and website. It lets you photograph the panels of a hand-painted map, keep them in an account, view the map as a whole, replay how it grew, and play the ggMapping map-painting game with digital help. There is no fee, no advertising, and no sale of your data.
2. Your account
You need an account to use the app. Keep your sign-in method safe; what happens under your account is your responsibility. You must be at least 16 years old, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to hold an account.
We may suspend or delete an account at any time, without notice, if we believe these terms have been broken, if an account is abused, or if we must do so to protect the site or other users. We will try to be fair and to say why when we can, but we do not have to.
3. What you may upload
The site exists for one thing: hand-made map painting as an artistic activity, in the spirit of Jerry's Map. Everything you upload must be about that. In particular you must not upload:
- images that are not relevant to map painting or to the ggMapping game;
- sexual, pornographic or otherwise NSFW content;
- advertising, promotion or spam of any kind;
- content that shows, promotes or assists any illegal activity;
- content that harasses, threatens or demeans a person or group;
- content you do not have the right to upload, including other people's work presented as your own.
We may remove content that breaks these rules without notice, and we may suspend the account that uploaded it.
4. Your work stays yours
Anything you paint and photograph is your original creation and remains your intellectual property. Uploading it to ggMapping does not transfer ownership to us or to anyone else.
5. The license you give the site
You keep ownership of your work. In return for the free service, you give ggMapping a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to store, copy, back up, sync, display, distribute and publicly show your uploads, and to create derivative works from them, such as thumbnails, previews, map tiles, timelines, compilations, showcase galleries and material that presents or promotes the ggMapping project.
We use this license to run the site and to celebrate the maps made on it. Private maps are shown only to you and used only to operate the service, unless you make them public or the material is used in an anonymised, unidentifiable form. When you make a map public, it may appear in showcases and galleries and be shared by others; making it private again stops new public display, but copies and derivative works already made or shared may continue to exist. This license survives the deletion of your account for content that was public or had already been used in derivative works.
We will not sell your work, and we will credit you as the author when your work is presented publicly and a credit is practical.
6. Deleting your content and account
You can delete maps, panels and your whole account from inside the app. Deleted content is removed from active use promptly and from backups within a reasonable time. Where content was public, cached or downloaded copies held by others may persist.
7. The site is offered as-is
ggMapping is a free hobby project, offered as-is and as-available, without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the site will be available, error-free, secure, or that your content will never be lost. To the fullest extent the law allows, ggMapping and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from any malfunction, interruption, data loss or security failure.
Keep your own copies of anything you care about. The app has backup tools; please use them.
8. Fair use of the service
Do not try to break, overload, scrape, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to the site, other users' accounts or other users' private content. Do not use the site for anything other than its purpose.
9. Changes
We may change these terms. When we do, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you inside the app. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
10. Contact
Questions, takedown requests and reports of content that breaks these rules can be sent to [email protected].
Thank you for painting with us.
